Team Overview
Following a restructuring of the senior management team, the role of “CRS Head of Risk – Dublin” has been created. The successful candidate will lead the Dublin CRS Risk Team and will report to the AVP, Reinsurance Risk Management who is based in the CRS Toronto office.
The successful candidate will work as part of the CRS risk team which provides oversight of all risks at CRS, covering multiple locations and a wide array of risk types. The Dublin-based risk team is primarily responsible for providing risk function oversight in relation to:
- Reinsurance transactions originated by the Dublin business development teams, covering life and non-life transactions,
- Solvency II and board requirements associated with CLReI, the Irish operating entity of CRS and
- Operational Risk oversight across CRS
The Role
The role represents an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working with senior management at CRS including the AVP, Reinsurance Risk Management and the CRS Chief Actuary & CRO. In addition, the role will offer the opportunity to work closely with the Dublin-based CRS Business Development teams, to present to CRS-level management committees and to support and oversee the CLReI Chief Risk Officer (PCF14).
More specifically, the role will involve:
- Responsibility to provide second line oversight for strategic decisions including reinsurance transactions developed by the Dublin-based business units. These transactions will be comprised of both life and non-life reinsurance treaties
- Engage with the Dublin Head of Office to understand and provide second line oversight of relevant issues that may arise within the Dublin Reinsurance Office
- Oversight of regular risk reporting requirements including risk budgets, risk limit reviews and committee-level reporting
- Oversight and support to be provided to the CLReI CRO (PCF position)
- Oversight of budgets & costs for the Dublin Risk team
- Responsibility for overseeing the CRS Operational Risk second line function
- Responsibility to oversee and lead risk-related projects which may arise
- Oversight of a team of 5 people in Dublin
- Required to manage relationships with multiple, senior stakeholders including CRS CEO, CRS Chief Actuary & CRO, Dublin-based business unit leaders, CRS Dublin Head of Office, Head of the CRS risk team in Toronto, group level financial and operational risk leads
The Person
The successful candidate will ideally have/be:
- Qualified actuary with 7+ years’ experience in a life and\or non-life insurance or reinsurance environment (not essential but highly desirable)
- Ability to understand complex transactions and identify the most important considerations from a risk perspective.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and in particular, an ability to effectively communicate complex concepts
- Assertive, self-motivated with the capacity to work autonomously, as part of a team and across teams including experience of planning and leading projects or initiatives
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, including an ability to derive and apply pragmatic solutions to complex problems
- Experience of leading and developing a highly motivated team
- Risk, Valuations, Pricing or Internal Audit experience is beneficial
- Competent user of MS Excel, MS Access, MS Word and MS PowerPoint
