Role Overview

We are seeking a Compliance Manager to join our growing team. This role, reporting into CLE’ Head of Compliance, will be a critical member of the Compliance function, who ensure that our operations remain compliant with regulatory requirements in Ireland and Germany. You will be responsible for Compliance Assurance Testing and Data Protection oversight, while also having the flexibility to engage in other aspects of the compliance program—such as AML, regulatory advice, and policy development—as business needs evolve.

What you will help us to achieve

Compliance Assurance Testing:
o    Develop and execute compliance testing plans to assess adherence to regulatory obligations.
o    Ensure implementation and maintenance of, and compliance with, all compliance-related policies, guidelines and procedures
o    Identify gaps and recommend corrective actions to mitigate compliance risks.
o    Prepare detailed reports and communicate findings to senior management.
o    Work closely with the Compliance functions of GWLifeco and Canada Life Irish Holding Company Limited (CLE’s immediate parent company) on these matters.
Data Protection:
o    Support the implementation and monitoring of GDPR compliance across the organization.
o    Assist in the further development of the Company’s Privacy and Data Protection Framework
o    Assist with data protection impact assessments and maintain records of processing activities.
o    Act as a point of contact for data protection queries and liaise with the Data Protection Officer.
o    Work closely with the European Data Protection Officer and team, as well as the Compliance functions of GWLifeco and Canada Life Irish Holding Company Limited.
Broader Compliance Support:
o    Contribute to AML monitoring and controls as required.
o    Provide regulatory advice and support on new products, processes, and initiatives.
o    Assist in policy development and compliance training programs.
o    Support the assessment of new legal, regulatory and corporate requirements that impact our business.
o    Support the CLE Compliance team in co-ordinating, maintaining and documenting  internal governance processes and controls
o    Embed a strong awareness across the company of our compliance obligations and responsibilities, and promote a strong conduct and customer focus;
Regulatory Engagement:
o    Stay informed on regulatory developments in Ireland and Germany.
o    Assist in preparing responses to regulatory inquiries and audits.

What you will need to be successful in the role

•    Degree in Law, Business, Risk Management, or a related field.
•    Ideally already holds a recognised Compliance qualification (LCI or equivalent) but alternatively demonstrates a commitment to achieving this in the short term. 
•    2+ years of experience in compliance, risk, or data protection (insurance sector preferred).
•    Strong understanding of GDPR and insurance regulatory frameworks.
•    Fluency in English is essential and German is preferred (written and spoken).
•    Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-border environment.


Fitness & Probity:

This role is a ‘controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank. This requires the company to complete prescribed due diligence to assess the appointee’s fitness and probity. Further details on this due diligence process are available from CLE Human Resources.
