Role Overview

The Global P&C Business Unit is responsible for P&C transactions in International Markets. Global P&C offers Structured and Property Catastrophe Retrocession solutions to our clients in EMEA and APAC. We have grown significantly in recent years, and we have ambitious plans for continued growth. We are now seeking a Head of Structuring & Pricing to lead our Structuring & Pricing team and to oversee underwriting of new business.

This role requires a combination of strong leadership, business acumen and excellent technical and analytical skills. The individual will have a growth mindset and strong emotional intelligence with the ability to adapt to changing priorities as they arise. They will have the ability to lead, collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams across the organisation.

This is a permanent role is based in our Head Office in Central Dublin and will require a commitment to travel on occasion.

What you will be responsible for:

  • Leadership: Lead and develop a high performing team in delivery of Global P&C’s business objectives. Work with Head of Global P&C to develop strategy for the Business Unit
  • Client Relationship Management: Work with the structured and property cat retrocession underwriters to build relationships with key brokers and clients to deliver on CRS’ vision of being “reinsurer of choice”
  • Product Development and Structuring: Develop and structure customised solutions to client needs and implement strategies for new products which optimize the benefit of reinsurance on client’s earnings, volatility or capital requirements as relevant while ensuring integration of CLRe’s P&C deal principles
  • Underwriting and Risk Assessment: Lead and oversee the underwriting of new and renewing transactions in accordance with CL Re's underwriting guidelines and stage gate process. Champion a best-in-class approach to underwriting and ensure key risks are identified, investigated, well understood and appropriately identified and explained
  • Pricing of Transactions: Ensure transactions are priced in a controlled environment and in line with the internal guidelines and processes. Ensure appropriate models are developed and maintained for pricing and projections of P&L and balance sheets for transactions
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate contractual terms with brokers and/or clients in line with instructions from reinsuring entity and per internal processes ensure drafting of transaction mechanics is appropriately reflected and operational aspects are appropriately considered
  • Portfolio Management: Ensure the effective management, monitoring and reporting of in force transactions by working collaboratively with the Actuarial, Finance and Operations teams and that underperforming transactions are appropriately highlighted and addressed

What you will need to be successful in the role

You will have knowledge of :

•    P&C reinsurance and insurance markets, trends and risks
•    P&C underwriting, modelling and pricing methodologies
•    Structured solutions and principles of how deals are constructed
•    Canadian and other approaches to calculating capital requirements
•    Financial knowledge and drivers of cashflow, profit and capital
•    Operational knowledge and awareness of drivers of success 
•    Knowledge and understanding of requirements of different stakeholders
•    A well-rounded understanding of the drivers of sustainable growth and success

You will have previous experience in:

•    Market practitioner at a senior level in the Property and Casualty reinsurance sector
•    Client facing and relationship building expertise
•    A Leadership role 
•    Dealing with key stakeholders and senior leadership
•    Dealing with risk management on complex business
•    Presenting at committee and Board level 
•    Contract reviews and negotiation 
•    Pricing and modelling expertise

 

Technical Competencies required:

•    Actuarial or similar background (10+ years post-qualification experience)
•    High technical proficiency with an innovative mindset

 

Fitness & Probity

This role is a ‘controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank.
