Role Overview

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the role of Head of Pricing and Product Development. 

 

Reporting to the CLE Chief Actuary, the Head of Pricing and Product Development will be responsible for the development and pricing of CLE’s products, as well as the actuarial aspects of the implementation.  

 

The Head of Pricing and Product Development will work closely with the Product Management Team and the Commercial Director based in Germany to develop CLE’s product strategy in the German market. The role will be supported by a team of actuarial professionals and will work closely with the CLE Executive Team and functional areas across the business. As a member of the CLE Actuarial Leadership Team, the Head of Pricing and Product Development will also take a broader role in the leadership of CLE’s Actuarial Teams. 
 

What you will help us to achieve

•    Lead the process to develop and price CLE’s products, working closely with the Commercial Team to ensure that CLE’s products meet the market’s requirements.
•    Lead the implementation of new products and product changes on the system from an actuarial perspective. 
•    Develop short, medium and long term strategic plans for CLE’s product development, aligned with CLE’s overall strategy. 
•    Develop innovative product solutions to support CLE’s growth ambitions and strategic objectives. 
•    Monitor the profitability of new business written for CLE on a regular basis, derive insights from this analysis and recommend appropriate actions to the Executive Team. 
•    Working with the Head of ALM and Capital Solutions, develop appropriate risk management strategies for business being written and ensure that these are appropriately reflected in product pricing. 
•    Ensure that CLE’s product development and pricing activities are carried out in a controlled manner meeting all governance requirements from internal policies and regulatory requirements, while also ensuring that the pace of delivery is aligned to the Company’s objectives.
•    Input into CLE’s business planning process. 
•    Instil a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across the Pricing and Product Development Team and broader across CLE.  
•    Manage, motivate and develop a team of staff to effectively accomplish the team’s goals and objectives and contribute positively and significantly to CLE’s overall strategic agenda.

What you will need to be successful in the role


•    An actuarial qualification (FSAI), or other appropriate professional qualification, with significant post-qualification experience working in life insurance. 
•    A strong blend of technical ability, judgement and commercial awareness. 
•    Ability to actively contribute to execution and delivery of strategic initiatives.
•    Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability, strong analytical skills and attention to detail. 
•    A proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deliver to tight timeframes.  
•    Previous experience in an actuarial pricing and product development role is a distinct advantage. 
•    Excellent communication skills, and in particular, a proven ability to explain complex issues clearly and concisely to a wide range of stakeholders both in writing and verbal.
•    Strong influencing skills.
•    A strong ability to collaborate effectively with other functions within the business and Executive Team members as required. 
•    An ability to effectively lead a team of professionals and to develop the team to perform to the best of its capabilities. 
•    Strong work ethic and a good sense of energy and urgency and priority setting.  
•    An ability to deliver insights that impact business outcomes. 
•    Knowledge of the German life insurance market and / or LICAT and Solvency II reporting bases would be an advantage.
