Role Overview

CLE is seeking to recruit an ambitious and talented candidate for the role of Actuarial Controls & Analysis team.

This is an opportunity which would suit a qualified or nearly qualified actuary ideally with a few years’ post qualification experience and a strong technical actuarial background.

The Actuarial Controls & analysis team is a key part of CLE’s Actuarial Function and is responsible for a variety of tasks such as fee income, unit reserves, detailed experience studies and metrics to keep an eye on how the business is going day-to-day.    

Responsibilities will include:

 

  • Develop and maintain the quarterly fee income process to confirm premiums, claims and unit rollforward are in line with actuals. Collaborate with the Finance team to confirm the fee income is in line with expected. Review of the quarterly unit reserve to confirm it is fit for purpose for the IFRS17/SII team.
  • Analyse and develop the annual experience studies (persistency, morbidity, mortality & expenses) to provide assumptions for the Reporting & Capital team which are updated annually.
  • Report and develop internal management metrics such as value in force, premiums, persistency on a bi-monthly basis.
  • Provide oversight of the outsourced investment functions. Confirm any pricing errors are within threshold and recalculate the impact of any possible occurrences. Review and approve pricing basis recommendations and complete the annual unit cost sheet review to check on issues with rebates, management charges, dealing costs.
  • Confirm that monthly prefunding is processed to reduce the shareholder exposure during periods of large unit movement.
  • Monitor Unit Mismatching and Seeding for Unit Linked Funds (both UWP and non-UWP).

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

 

  • Qualified or nearly qualified actuary with minimum 5 years’ experience in the insurance industry
  • Self-starter and proven track record of problem solving.
  • Meticulous in the production, validation, presentation and communication of results.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication.
  • Skilled user of SQL, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Prophet and other coding languages such as VBA code would be beneficial.
  • Experience with oversight of funds and setting company assumptions would be a distinct advantage.
  • While German language skills and / or knowledge of CLE’s products & processes can be beneficial they are not a requirement.
