Role Overview
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the successful candidate will manage a team of professionals, responsible for providing financial services relating to a portfolio of complex reinsurance transactions. The primary purpose of the role is to preserve financial integrity and control while encouraging a culture of change and growth.
What you will help us to achieve
• Preparation of monthly and quarterly accounts for each transaction, meeting all local and group financial reporting requirements within required deadlines.
• Responsible for all GL balances including the detailed review of balance sheet reconciliations and supporting back-up.
• Support delivery of information to the Statutory & Regulatory Reporting Team for inclusion in the quarterly and annual regulatory returns to the Central Bank of Ireland and the Central Statistics Office.
• Adhere to all internal financial controls, ensuring the team is well placed to meet audit requirements.
• Manage relationships with auditors, providing information to internal and external audit teams to assist with appropriate audit of transactions.
• Establish sound accounting processes and procedures for new transactions written through CL Re Dublin.
• Ownership of complete and accurate documentation on all processes and procedures associated with the role.
• Actively engage cross functionally with the Business Development and Actuarial functions.
• Develop relationships with brokers and clients, ensuring transaction accounts are settled in a timely manner by liaising with the Treasury team to ensure sufficient liquidity to facilitate settlements or to advise of incoming receipts to facilitate investment.
• Provide leadership and direction to trainee accountants, supporting development needs and mentoring direct reports.
• Drive continuous improvement by actively challenging established processes and continually striving to achieve optimum results.
• Involvement in projects suited to qualifications & experience.
What you will need to be successful in the role
• An accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CAI) with 4+ years post qualified experience in a finance related role of an insurance or reinsurance entity or in a financial services audit and advisory practice.
• Experience in a life insurance or reinsurance environment would be an advantage.
• Assertive, self-motivated with the capacity to work autonomously, as part of a team and across teams. Managerial experience would be an advantage.
• A flexible and enthusiastic approach to work with a strong appetite to learn and develop.
• Strong analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
• An ability to plan work, manage time effectively and ensure timely completion of all deliverables.
• The capacity to effectively and efficiently solve problems and make decisions.
• Well developed verbal and written communication skills, and in particular an ability to effectively communicate complex concepts.
• Knowledge of the reporting requirements of IFRS. IFRS 17 experience would be an advantage.
• Competent user of MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.
• Experience of an operating accounting packages would be beneficial (ideally SAP).
