Role Overview

The Research and Development team supports business development, assumption setting, modelling, and pricing for Canada Life Re’s wide range of reinsurance product offerings across Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. The core focus of the role is developing assumptions and modelling to support new business growth, and the team works closely with the wider Business Development team in pricing and execution of new transactions.

What you will help us to achieve

The successful candidate will support, lead, and conduct cutting-edge research on the assessment of risks, market developments, and the most up-to-date actuarial methodologies and techniques.

 

They will take a lead in developing innovative analysis supporting a wide variety of reinsurance solutions, covering a broad range of risks (e.g. longevity, mortality, morbidity, lapse, investment) in a diverse range of international regions (for example Europe, Asia, South America and Oceania), developing innovative analysis and research to contribute to CL Re’s continued growth and success.

More specific responsibilities will include

In this role the successful candidate will:


•Support, lead, and conduct cutting-edge research on the assessment of risks, market developments, and the most up-to-date actuarial methodologies and techniques, working creatively and flexibly on a diverse range of projects
•Develop innovative analysis supporting a wide variety of reinsurance solutions, covering a broad range of risks (e.g. longevity, mortality, morbidity, lapse, investment) in a diverse range of international regions (for example Europe, Asia, South America and Oceania)
•Lead projects to explore and investigate key aspects of the pricing and basis setting for a variety of potential new business opportunities both in existing markets/risks as well as in exciting potential new markets/risks
•Develop models using the most up-to-date software platforms and support the wider Business Development function in utilising this technology
•Prepare and present analysis and findings to senior management
•Collaborate with the Longevity, European Structured, International Markets and Asset Intensive Reinsurance pricing teams, as well as wider teams across the Dublin reinsurance office

 

What you will need to be successful in the role

The ideal candidate will have:


•    Newly or nearly qualified actuary with a minimum of 3 years of work experience.
•    Strong technical and modelling skills; experience of working with actuarial/statistical software such as R, Python, SQL, PowerShell, VBA, Prophet or similar actuarial modelling software would be valuable
•    Excellent communication skills
•    Experience in working on innovative projects, developing solutions, using technical creativity
•    Self-motivated with a positive and flexible attitude
•    Excellent team player
