Role Overview

CLE is looking for an experienced actuarial leader to join our Product Development & Pricing team at a pivotal time for the business. With a growing agenda across protection and investment business, we are expanding our leadership capacity to strengthen delivery, improve responsiveness, and accelerate our pricing strategy.


This opportunity would suit a qualified actuary with a number of years of managerial experience who is keen to combine their leadership and technical skills to deliver on our pricing agenda. This is a high impact role where you will shape pricing decisions that directly influence sales performance, competitive positioning, and profitability.

What you will help us to achieve

•    Lead, develop and motivate a team of qualified actuaries and trainee actuaries ensuring that they achieve and contribute to their maximum potential
•    Provide senior leadership for Protection business, as part of a deliberate split of responsibilities across the two Senior Manager roles. The successful candidate will lead all protection pricing initiatives working closely with teams across CLE to ensure robust, commercially aligned pricing strategies.
•    Accelerate delivery of high priority pricing initiatives.
•    Own and strengthen pricing frameworks, actuarial models, assumptions, and control processes, ensuring robust governance and audit ready documentation.
•    Analyse and report on product profitability metrics providing actionable insights that drive decisions.
•    Ensure all pricing and product decisions comply with internal policies and standards
•    Collaborate closely with Risk, Capital, Finance, Underwriting, Distribution, Operations, and reinsurance providers to deliver aligned decisions and unblock issues quickly.
•    Provide senior challenge and insight at governance forums and present to executive committees as required.
•    Engage proactively with the Commercial teams to identify commercial challenges and design competitive, market informed solutions that enhance customer and business value.
•    Contribute to the development and execution of the CLE product and pricing strategy, ensuring delivery of the business plan and financial expectations and driving continuous improvement across product and pricing processes.

What you will need to be successful in the role

•    Qualified actuary with minimum 4/5 years post qualified experience and 2/3 years managerial experience.
•    Significant experience in pricing, product development, or related actuarial roles
•    Knowledge of the regulatory and capital framework (Solvency II and LICAT) and IFRS 17 reporting.
•    Strong modelling capability (e.g., Prophet, R, Python, SQL, Excel).
•    Proven track record in leading, motivating, and developing teams
•    Effective communicator, capable of simplifying actuarial concepts to allow effective decision making.
•    Commercially minded with strong problem solving skills and strategic thinking.
•    A proactive mindset, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
•    While German language skills and / or knowledge of CLE’s products & processes can be beneficial they are not a requirement. An ability to quickly understand and adapt to the German market will be advantageous.
•    The role may require regular travel to Germany; flexibility to do so is desirable.
