Role Overview

CLE is currently seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to lead the growing Platform team. You will be responsible for leading the implementation of scalable cloud platform, reporting to the Head of Software Engineering. Candidates will have a strong cloud engineering background and experience in automation, SRE, Agile methodologies, and cloud technologies.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience:
•    Building and supporting scalable, resilient cloud-based architectures
•    Standardising approaches and patterns across many applications and teams
•    Migration of on-premises applications to the cloud
•    Liaising with team leads and stakeholders; mentoring junior team members
•    Creating and socialising architecture patterns, designs, and maintaining a growing service catalog

 

What you will help us to achieve

Responsibilities:
•    Implement best of breed, scalable solutions according to defined patterns and practices
•    Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Write and manage declarative infrastructure using tools like Terraform or Azure Bicep
•    Continuously optimise and improve the Cloud Platform through automation and FinOps practices
•    Security & Compliance: Implement identity and access management (IAM), network security groups, and encryption protocols.
•    Monitoring & Reliability: Set up observability tools to track system health and performance
•    Provide expert guidance to development, platform, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
•    Mentor and lead junior team members and unblock progress through forward-thinking and experience 

What you will need to be successful in the role

Essential Skills:
•    Experience in designing, implementing, securing and monitoring production grade cloud platforms.
•    5 plus years' experience as a Cloud Engineer or DevOps/Platform role. 
•    Highly proficient in pipeline architecture and automation; experience with Azure DevOps being preferred
•    Knowledge and experience of Terraform, Helm, Bash, and PowerShell
•    Good knowledge of System Architectures, Software Engineering, and DevOps / Agile practices - experience of Agile Methodologies and operating in agile / scrum based teams
•    Excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to craft effective solutions
•    Excellent team player, collaborative, and supportive
•    Ability to multitask while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
•    A solution driven, self-starter with commitment and follow through
•    Fluent in English – written and verbal

 

Necessary Qualifications / Skills:
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
•    3rd level qualification (honours degree), preferably in a related discipline.


Desired Skills & Experience
•    Knowledge of insurance or financial services industry applications and functionality. 
•    Experience with Cloud Computing platforms – Azure, AWS or GCP.
•    Experience using JIRA/Confluence.
•    Working knowledge of German language

 

Technologies & Frameworks:
•    Experience with Terraform, Bicep. 
•    CI/CD: Jenkins, Azure DevOps.
•    Scripting: Strong command of Bash or PowerShell.
•    Networking & Communication Protocols – DNS, TCPIP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, SSL, FTP, SCP.

Key Strenghts

•    Good knowledge of cloud networking (VNETs, private endpoints, load balancers, DNS, firewalls, hybrid connectivity).
•    Systems integration experience across multi-vendor and multi-cloud platforms.
•    Working knowledge of at least one API Gateway (Azure API Management preferred).
•    Experience in Containerisation – Kubernetes (AKS), Docker, etc.
•    Demonstrable experience designing and consuming many Microsoft Azure PaaS services
•    CI/CD Pipelines: Experience with building and optimising automated deployment workflows via Azure DevOps or Jenkins.
•    Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices
•    Experience working in Agile environments alongside software development and security teams
•    Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to diverse audiences.
•    Ability to think big picture; building solutions that tackle problems both in the short term and future
