Role Overview

 

Join our dynamic team at Central Technology Services within Canada Life Group as a Network Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless connectivity and reliability across our network infrastructure.

 

  • As a key member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to utilize cutting-edge technologies and tools to maintain and optimize our network infrastructure.

Team Background

 

Step into the heart of innovation within our Central Technology Services (CTS) Networks team, reporting directly to European Technology. 

 

  • Here, you'll take the helm in overseeing every facet of wired and wireless LAN and WAN, as well as a myriad of cutting-edge technologies including Firewalls, Load Balancers, Secure File Transfer, VPNs, and virtual networks.
  • While this role doesn't involve direct reports or people management, we're seeking a seasoned technical engineer who embodies leadership qualities. Your expertise will be pivotal in guiding, advising, and training fellow team members whenever the need arises.
  • Communication is key in this role. You'll be the face of our team, interfacing with stakeholders and customers alike, ensuring their needs are met with efficiency and professionalism. Moreover, we value proactive reporting to management, so your ability to provide clear and concise updates will be instrumental in our success.

 

More specific responsibilities will include

 

  • Design, implement, and nurture an intricate web of routers, switches, firewalls, and virtual network components. 
  • Dive deep into a realm where every line of business system and legacy treasure is safeguarded by our robust network, necessitating strict adherence to ITAM change processes.
  • Gear up for exciting technical challenges as you troubleshoot network conundrums, performing root cause analyses to tackle connectivity, performance, and security hurdles head-on. Your expertise will span across a diverse landscape, from physical Cisco and Dell hardware to virtual Checkpoint firewalls, SDWAN routers, F5 load balancers, VMWARE NSXT virtual infrastructure, and the Axway secure file transport system. 
  • Expect to thrive under pressure, swiftly resolving issues to minimize downtime's high business impact within our fast-paced financial enterprise.
  • Elevate our defenses against cyber threats as you champion network security measures and ensure unwavering compliance with industry standards and audit requirements in our regulated financial domain.
  • With your vigilant eye on network performance and capacity, anticipate and address potential bottlenecks across our complex, multi-site distributed network. Navigate seamlessly through a diverse array of technologies supporting myriad applications for multiple lines of business.
  • Forge ahead as a collaborative force, working hand-in-hand with cross-functional teams to fuel project initiatives with your unparalleled technical expertise. Keep all stakeholders informed with timely updates on progress and emerging issues, ensuring seamless alignment across the board.

  • Wired and Wireless NAC management / configuration / upgrades / troubleshooting

Management / configuration / troubleshooting of;

  • NSX-T Micro segmentation 
  • Azure & AWS management 

Management / configuration / upgrades / troubleshooting of;

What you will need to be successful in the role

 

The ideal candidate will have/be:

 

  • Ideally 7+ years network engineering experience 
  • Solid experience with Networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, ISIS, SFTP, SNMP)
  • Experience working with network hardware (e.g., Cisco routers and switches, checkpoint firewalls, Kemp, F5 and AVI load balancers, Dell border leaf switches)
  • Virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Kubernetes, Azure, NSXT, HCI)
  • Network monitoring and management tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, VMWare IDM Workspace One, Tufin, PRTG, Netflow, Thousandeyes, DNAC, ISE)
  • Security protocols and tools (e.g., VPN, IDS/IPS, SIEM, MFA, NAC, DDoS, WAF). 
  • Experience working in a highly controlled ITAM environment.
