Role Overview

Canada Life Europe (CLE) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be responsible for the design, development and maintenance of ETL and data integration solutions using Microsoft SQL Server Integration Solutions (SSIS). Working with enterprise Data Warehouse solutions enabling the secure flow of data through the organisation. The person will have a strong development background and experience in building large scale n-tier systems. They must have experience of working in a Financial Services environment and be able to convert complex business requirements into working solutions. The applicant must be detail orientated and focused on quality of implementation.

What you will help us to achieve

•    Design, build, and implement best of breed, scalable solutions according to defined patterns and practices. 
•    Hands on development activities, building and maintaining scalable solutions for both on premise and cloud-based systems.
•    Hands on support and upskilling of existing resources, providing patterns for common problems and developing prototypes.
•    Work as part of a Scrum team using Agile practices and adhering to the values and principles.

What you will need to be successful in the role

Key Strengths:
•    Hands on experience of designing and building data solutions across complicated, highly regulated environments.
•    Experience with SQL Server, Oracle and other RDBMS 
•    Experience with ETL tools and development.
•    Experience with cloud platform, Azure, AWS or other.
•    Good knowledge of CI and CD principles and methodologies.
•    Demonstrate hands on experience of ensuring code quality, data quality, and robust business solutions. 

Essential Skills:
•    Extensive experience in designing data solutions and data extract, transforms and loads.
•    Experience across multi-tiered systems, cloud and on premise.
•    5+ years SQL/SSIS programming experience and deep knowledge of relational databases (e.g. SQL Server).
•    Highly proficient in SQL optimisation and performance tuning.
•    Knowledge of Data Warehousing design patterns and data modelling.
•    Understanding the concepts of Data Governance – Data Masking, Data Quality and Lineage.
•    Good knowledge of System Architectures, Software Engineering, and DevOps / Agile practices - experience of Agile Methodologies and operating in agile / scrum-based teams.
•    Strong competencies in Strategic Thinking, Collaboration, Communication, Problem Solving, Working on own Initiative.
•    Excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to craft effective solutions.
•    Excellent team player, collaborative, and supportive.
•    Ability to multitask while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
•    A solution driven, self-starter with commitment and follow through.
•    Fluent in English – written and verbal.

Necessary Skills:
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
•    3rd level qualification (honours degree), preferably in a related discipline.

Desired Skills & Experience:

•    Knowledge of insurance or financial services industry applications and functionality. 
•    Experience with business intelligence and reporting - PowerBI.
•    Knowledge and experience of Snowflake.
•    Experience with Azure Data Factory.
•    Experience using JIRA/Confluence.
•    Working knowledge of German language

•    Experience in SQL Server – DW, SSIS. 
•    Relational Database design
•    Experience with programming  languages: Java,  C#, Python
•    Scripting: Powershell, Bash
