Role Overview

CLE is seeking to recruit an ambitious and talented candidate into the role of Trainee Actuary.  This is an exciting opportunity which would suit an Actuarial student with a few years’ experience or an Actuarial graduate who is looking to put their technical and analytical skills to use. The Actuarial Reporting team perform a variety of tasks such as reserve and capital calculations, experience investigations, basis setting, reinsurance management, funding controls and report writing. The role has plenty of scope for the candidate to learn and grow while working within a small team of students and experienced actuaries.  Over time we aim to the provide potential for the jobholder to broaden their actuarial experience through rotations across the various teams within the Actuarial department. 
 

What you will help us to achieve

•    Report on our company’s financial performance via quarterly reporting and the setting of regulatory reserves and capital under different bases used by the company,
•    Support the business planning process by producing earnings and capital projections as required for business planning and strategic review,
•    Perform sensitivity and scenario testing for use in local and Group reporting, 
•    Implement and report on complex reinsurance strategies designed to reduce the risk to the company and our Canadian shareholder,
•    Perform data analysis to identify trends and anomalies to assist management’s decision making,
•    Provide actuarial and technical support for queries from clients, sales channels, and non-actuarial teams,
•    Develop a working knowledge of Statutory, Revenue, Disclosure and Pensions legislation to ensure compliance with legislation and Company policies. 

 

What you will need to be successful in the role

•    Making good progress through the Actuarial Professional Exams,
•    An expectation of at least a 2.1 result in actuarial mathematics or similar financial studies, 
•    Self-starter and ability to navigate through complex problems to achieve results and deliver solutions,
•    Meticulous in the production, validation, presentation and communication of results while meeting challenging deadlines,
•    Respectful of deadlines, discipline and process, yet flexible and pragmatic within a growing business,
•    Ability to interact with colleagues and management at all levels,
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
•    Skilled user of Excel, Access & Word. Experience of developing VBA and SQL code,
•    While German language skills and / or knowledge of CLE’s products & processes can be beneficial for some of the roles available they are not a requirement.
