Role Overview

Canada Life Reinsurance (CLRe) is seeking to recruit ambitious and talented candidates to fill a number of trainee actuary roles where you'll gain hands-on experience, professional development, and the opportunity to shape a rewarding actuarial career.  In dynamic and stakeholder focused teams, the successful candidates will gain exposure to a complex and innovative business with a wide range of traditional reinsurance transactions as well as bespoke structured reinsurance solutions.

The successful candidates will join one of the following teams:
•    Business Development
•    Operations
•    Actuarial
•    Risk

What you will help us to achieve

The key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
•    Structuring and pricing of new transactions, including the data analysis, modelling and documentation of results.
•    Implementation of new reinsurance transactions.
•    Analysing client reporting and producing experience studies.
•    Using actuarial modelling to calculate actuarial liabilities, capital requirements and earnings on a wide range of reinsurance transactions.
•    Completing complex collateral and capital requirement calculations.
•    Communicating proposals and results to senior management.
•    Developing in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of a portfolio of complex reinsurance treaties.

What you will need to be successful in the role

•    Should be on track to receive a minimum 2.1 university degree in an actuarial or alternative relevant discipline.
•    Highly numerate.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    A team player with the ability to work on own initiative and be flexible.
•    An ambitious individual who will thrive in a technical and fast-paced environment.
•    Experience in using Microsoft Office package (Excel, Access, Word) is desirable.
•    Experience with modelling platforms or programming languages such as Prophet, R or SQL would be a plus.
•    A commitment to working in a diverse and inclusive workplace.
