Role Overview

Working closely with the Business Risk Manager to support the business in maintaining its strong culture that values risk management, the successful candidate will have exposure to senior management and play a key role in the development and maintenance of the risk framework within ILIM and Setanta championing risk management and delivering appropriate and meaningful challenges, guidance and support to the business in managing their risks in accordance with the Firms risk management framework, appetite, policies and procedures.

Team Background

 

Irish Life Investment Managers Ltd (“ILIM”) and Setanta Asset Management Ltd (“Setanta”) are key business operations of Irish Life Group Limited (“ILGL”), with reporting lines to the ILGL CEO. 
ILGL is part of the Great-West Lifeco (“GWL”) group of companies. ILIM and Setanta are MiFID authorised investment firms whose main business activity is the provision of discretionary portfolio management to the Group and other institutional clients. Both firms have an Irish and international client base.  

More specific responsibilities will include

•    Assisting with the delivery of operational risk management tasks as allocated by the Business Risk Manager
•    Maintaining the operational risk management system which records risk, controls, issues and operational risk events 
•    Exposure to key business processes through testing of control design and effectiveness and making recommendations to management for improvements. 
•    Working closely with the business areas to identify and assess risks in order to deliver the Risk and Control Self-Assessment programme.
•    Supporting the development, monitoring and reporting of risk metrics 
•    Exposure to the Internal Capital and Risk Assessment (ICARA) and operational risk scenario programme
•    Assisting with the roll out and management of risk policies and the development of strategies, processes and reporting procedures necessary to manage the risks facing the Firm
•    Providing inputs to the preparation of quality risk reports for senior management, Group and the Board Risk Committee 
•    Providing support to the firms Senior Management Operational Risk Steering Committees
•    Generating daily credit limit reports and escalating issues to the business.
•    Overseeing operational risks related to outsourced activities and key supplier arrangements.

What you will need to be successful in the role

•    Experience in working in a risk or other oversight function in a financial services company, or relevant experience in an operational role within an Investment Firm is an advantage.
•    An understanding of an operational risk management framework and of an investment business would be an advantage
•    Proficiency in M365 applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Power BI, Flow automate and Forms
•    Excellent attention to detail with analytical mind set. 
•    Highly organised with an ability to work across teams efficiently and effectively in a busy environment
•    Good interpersonal skills with strong written and verbal communication capabilities. Ability to clearly prepare written reports and convey key messages across a range of stakeholders.
•    A relevant third level and/or professional qualification would be an advantage 
•    Demonstrate a positive enthusiastic approach, a desire to learn and be willing to undertake continuous professional development.
