The Commercial Insights Manager is a key role in the Irish Life Health Consumer team, responsible for creating and executing sales and retention initiatives across our Direct (call centre and web) and Broker Partner channels, to increase market share in the consumer business and retain customers at renewal. The main accountabilities and outlines of this role are: 


  • New business growth using sales tactics: The Commercial Insights Manager will design and implement effective sales strategies and campaigns to acquire new customers to increase market share and meet their own targets.  They will also monitor and evaluate the performance and impact of these initiatives and report on the return on investment. 


  • Managing customer retention at renewal: The Commercial Insights Manager will monitor and analyse the customer retention rates and identify the factors that influence customer loyalty and satisfaction. They will design and implement strategies and campaigns to improve customer retention and reduce downtrade, such as offering incentives, discounts, or rewards for renewing customers.  


  • Analysing data and identifying trends and insights: The Commercial Insights Manager will leverage data from various sources, such as MI, customer feedback, surveys, web analytics, social media, and market research, to identify opportunities and challenges for the business. They will also generate actionable insights and recommendations based on the data analysis and present them to senior management and relevant stakeholders. 


  • Executing effective initiatives using those insights: The Commercial Insights Manager will collaborate with other teams, such as Product Development, Pricing, Digital e-commerce, and Marketing, to translate the insights into innovative and customer-centric initiatives that support the business objectives and brand values. They will also oversee the execution and delivery of these initiatives and measure their effectiveness and outcomes. 


  • Market and product knowledge: The Commercial Insights Manager will keep abreast of the latest trends and developments in the health insurance industry and the competitive landscape. They will also have a comprehensive knowledge of the products and services offered by Irish Life Health and how they compare to other providers. They will use this information to inform their decisions and strategies and to communicate effectively with customers and prospects. 


  • Reporting on sales and retention performance: The Commercial Insights Manager will work closely with the MI team to create and maintain reports that track and evaluate the sales and retention performance of Irish Life Health across different channels, segments, and products. They will also provide regular and ad hoc updates to senior management and highlight any issues or opportunities that require attention or action. They will also benchmark the performance against industry standards and best practices and suggest areas for improvement. 




The Person

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Understanding of the health insurance industry, including regulations, compliance requirements, market trends and competitive landscape 
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining reports that track and evaluate the sales and retention performance of Irish Life Health 
  • Proven experience in developing and executing business strategies based on data-driven insights 
  • Strong tactical and critical thinking skills 
  • Ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to various stakeholders, including senior management 
  • Commitment to staying updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices 
  • Willingness to continuously develop new skills and expertise 
  • Qualification – APA Personal and General Insurance (minimum requirement) 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively to overcome challenges 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams 
  • Experience in collaborating with sales, marketing, finance, and other departments

This role is a ‘controlled function’ as defined by the Central Bank Reform Act 2010 Regulations 2011. Any appointment will be conditional on the company being satisfied that the appointee meets the requirements as set out in the Fitness and Probity standards issued by the Central Bank.
