Role Overview
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Products and Propositions, you will lead the Protection strategy, ensuring the creative and innovative development and implementation of protection products, propositions, and service solutions for Irish Life customers and partners.
This role is ideal for an individual with robust technical expertise in retail protection products, a comprehensive understanding of the Irish life insurance market, and deep knowledge of the complexities of risk and underwriting.
You will have proven experience in product and proposition development, a passion for understanding customer needs, and a flair for creative thinking and innovative problem-solving. Strong team leadership and sound decision-making skills are essential for success in this position.
What you will help us to achieve
1. Have and maintain an in-depth understanding of the Irish protection market, risk management, underwriting practices, and the broader economic environment, using this knowledge to inform product strategy, decision-making, and proposition development.
2. Provide expert technical guidance on the design, development, and management of protection products, ensuring technical rigour, compliance with regulatory requirements, and alignment with market trends and best practice.
3. Oversee the end-to-end product lifecycle for protection products, from initial concept through to launch and ongoing management, ensuring products are technically robust, clearly positioned, and effectively communicated to maximise competitiveness.
4. Lead the analysis and interpretation of complex claims data, risk profiles, and market intelligence, utilising these insights to drive innovative and competitive product and proposition development.
5. Take a leadership and key decision-making role across multiple, concurrent workstreams focused on the technical development, enhancement, and positioning of protection products.
6. Act as a subject matter expert on protection and risk products, providing technical support to colleagues, and championing the voice of the customer to ensure their needs are prioritised and embedded in all aspects of product and proposition development.
7. Lead the stakeholder engagement agenda across distribution channels, ensuring continuity of relationships and alignment of messaging. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders—including reinsurers, underwriters, compliance, and regulatory bodies—to ensure products remain relevant, compliant, and commercially successful.
8. Act as the senior technical lead representing protection products in formal governance processes, ensuring all product and proposition decisions are robust, compliant, and aligned with regulatory and business requirements.
9. Inspire the team with energy, creativity, and an innovative mindset, applying technical expertise to support the delivery of strategic objectives and foster idea generation and informed decision-making.
10. Embrace digital tools and data analytics to enhance product development, customer insight, and operational efficiency.
11. Monitor regulatory developments (including Central Bank of Ireland requirements) and ensure all protection propositions are fully compliant.
12. Drive continuous improvement in customer experience, claims processes, and digital engagement for protection customers.
What you will need to be successful in the role
• Minimum 3 years' management experience.
• Specialist knowledge of protection products, risk management, and the Irish life insurance market.
• Proven experience in the design, development, and management of protection propositions.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating with reinsurers, underwriters, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
• Track record of leading and managing high-performing teams.
• Demonstrates a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving and product development.
• Deep understanding of customer needs and distribution channels.
• Highly motivated and driven, with the ability to meet challenging deadlines.
• Experience with digital tools and data analytics is highly desirable.
• APA/QFA or equivalent professional qualification is desirable.
