Role Overview
Irish Life Group is looking for a Senior Technical Services Lead to work within the Workplace Services division and lead the safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective delivery of hard services across the organisation’s headquarters and regional locations. The role provides senior technical leadership for building systems, maintenance strategy, asset performance, contractor delivery and operational resilience, while supporting an excellent workplace experience.
The role is accountable for the optimal performance of mechanical, electrical and life-safety systems; planned, preventative and reactive maintenance; technical compliance; asset and lifecycle planning; technical project support; and oversight of third-party service providers. It acts as the technical subject-matter lead for Workplace Services, collaborating with Facilities Operations, Health & Safety, Workplace Experience, Events, Projects, IT/AV, People teams and business stakeholders.

Key responsibilities
• Lead the technical services function and ensure the safe, reliable and effective operation of building assets and systems in line with legislation, organisational policy and agreed service levels.
• Manage the maintenance and asset lifecycle strategy with the outsourced service provider, ensuring statutory compliance, asset reliability and business continuity.
• Provide technical oversight of mechanical and electrical infrastructure, including HVAC, water services and drainage, lighting, BMS, electrical distribution, fire and life-safety systems, security systems, building controls and associated sensors.
• Lead and manage Workplace Services technicians, setting clear priorities and supporting performance, capability and development.
• Manage the contractor management system for technical contractors and vendors, ensuring appropriate competence, documentation, safe systems of work, RAMS, permits and performance oversight.
• Oversee planned and reactive maintenance through the CAFM/CMMS platform, ensuring work orders, statutory inspections, asset information and technical records are accurate and delivered within agreed KPIs and SLAs.
• Lead the investigation and resolution of complex building-system faults and service interruptions, coordinating incident response, root-cause analysis, corrective actions and stakeholder communications.
• Maintain robust fire and life-safety arrangements with the Health & Safety team, including system availability, impairment controls, shutdowns, inspections and timely remediation of hazards.
• Ensure technical services comply with relevant Irish legislation, statutory programmes, building control requirements, environmental obligations and applicable organisational and quality standards.
• Provide technical leadership for facilities projects, fit-outs and workplace change from requirements and design review through commissioning, handover and operational acceptance.
• Support safe and effective event delivery through coordination of technical services, energy, heating, cooling, power, access, fire safety and AV/IT requirements.
• Manage technical budgets, procurement, supplier performance and monthly reporting, including financial performance, supplier billing and delivery against KPIs and SLAs.
• Drive continuous improvement across maintenance, energy performance, service controls, customer experience and ways of working.
• Build effective relationships across Workplace Services, business stakeholders and specialist suppliers, providing clear advice and resolving operational issues promptly.
• Provide technical support outside normal working hours and participate in emergency or on-call arrangements where required.
Qualifications
• Degree, higher diploma or recognised trade qualification in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, building services engineering or a closely trade related technical discipline.
• Relevant health and safety qualification, such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.
• Formal training or certification in contractor management, permit-to-work systems, electrical safety, mechanical systems, fire safety or statutory compliance is desirable.
• Recognised energy-management or building-performance qualification is desirable.
• Training or demonstrable competence in CAFM/CMMS platforms and asset-management methodologies.
Preferred experience, knowledge, and skills
• At least five years’ relevant experience in technical services, hard services or building operations, including supervisory or lead-level responsibility in a complex environment.
• Broad knowledge of mechanical, electrical and building-management systems, with practical expertise in at least one relevant technical discipline.
• Experience overseeing maintenance, statutory compliance, asset reliability and lifecycle programmes.
• Experience leading technicians and managing multidisciplinary contractors and specialist suppliers.
• Working knowledge of contractor controls, safe systems of work and relevant Irish statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Experience supporting technical projects through planning, commissioning, handover and operational acceptance.
• Commercial awareness, including experience of budgets, procurement, supplier performance and service reporting.
• Strong analytical, fault-finding and problem-solving capability, with sound judgement during incidents and service interruptions.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters clearly to non-technical audiences.
• A customer-focused, continuous-improvement approach, with confidence using CAFM/CMMS, technical reporting and standard workplace systems.
On-site requirement
This is a full-time, on-site role, reflecting the operational and leadership requirements of the technical services function. Flexibility to respond to incidents, support planned out-of-hours works and participate in on-call arrangements may be required, subject to business needs.
