Role Overview

 

As a Tax Specialist for the Irish Life/Canada Life Group, you will take ownership of key tax compliance, tax accounting and tax reporting activities, working both independently and collaboratively with the wider Tax team, while reporting into one of our Tax Managers or Senior Tax Managers within the team. You will lead the preparation and delivery of high-quality tax analysis and insight to support internal and external regulatory, statutory and group oversight processes, and act proactively to provide tax support to divisions and management across the Group’s operations. The ideal candidate will be ACA/ACCA part qualified and/or AITI part qualified (or another relevant Tax qualification).  We will also consider fully qualified candidates with suitable experience for this role.  

Team Background

 

•    You will work as an integral member of a high-performing Taxation team, taking  responsibility for your own portfolio of work whilst actively contributing to team projects and shared delivery deadlines and will report to one of our Tax Managers or Senior Tax Managers within the Irish Life/Canada Life group. You will collaborate closely with colleagues in Ireland and the Group’s Canadian tax team to ensure a consistent, joined-up approach to tax across the Group. 
•    This team has oversight/responsibility for all Irish statutory tax compliance, tax accounting and tax advisory services for the Irish Life/Canada Life Group

What you will help us to achieve

 

•    As a Tax Specialist, you will take primary responsibility for allocated tax compliance and will support tax planning activities across a range of tax heads (direct and indirect), working closely with the Tax Management Team and Head of Tax, and escalating issues with clear, well-thought-through recommendations 
•    Act as a key tax contact for designated business divisions, providing clear, practical tax technical advice, and building strong, trusted working relationships with management and stakeholders across the Group  
•    Prepare and review Irish tax returns and tax computations for the Irish Life/Canada Life Group over a range of tax heads (including but not limited to Corporation Tax, Exit Tax, VAT etc.), ensuring filing deadlines and tax reporting requirements are consistently met. 
•    Prepare and review the quarterly and year-end tax provisioning and reporting processes for local entity and group accounts purposes, including the preparation and review of associated workings. 
•    Keeping up to date with existing and upcoming tax legislation to support the business. 

What you will need to be successful in the role

 

The ideal candidate will have/be: 
 •    ACA/ACCA part qualified and/or AITI part qualified or another relevant Tax qualification. We will also consider qualified candidates with suitable experience for this role.  
•    Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently, both independently (owning and delivering your own portfolio of work) and as part of a collaborative team in a demanding environment whilst meeting tight deadlines. 
•    Highly motivated self-starter with the confidence to use initiative, identify issues and opportunities early, and propose pragmatic solutions, combined with a strong willingness to learn 
•    Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret new regulations and financial information.  
•    Good technical tax knowledge, including legislation and case law in addition to practical application.   
•    Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple assignments simultaneously, taking personal accountability for delivery within tight deadlines in a demanding environment. 
•    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written incorporating an ability to communicate technical concepts and the ability to interact positively with others.  
•    Strong end user computing skills in particular MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint. 
•    Previous experience of Alteryx, AI and other similar software is beneficial but not necessary
