Role Overview
If you have several years of relevant experience in underwriting and strong analytical reasoning / decision making capabilities, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!
This role would suit someone with the above skills currently at Consultant level looking build on their experience.
Irish Life manages employee benefits for individual & corporate customers.
The Underwriting area assess over 50,000 protection applications per year across Life, Specified Illness, Bill Cover & Income Protection Cover.
In this role, you will report to a Team Manager and will be required to make decisions on large and complex risks.

The Underwriter role will include the following responsibilities
- Assessing new applications and deciding on medical and financial requirements in accordance with the company philosophy
- Developing good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Assessment of complex medical and financial risks, plus management of Large Case risks
- Liaising with Chief Medical Officer and Reinsurers
- Corresponding with Brokers, Employers, customers and Doctors
- Developing a high level of technical and medical expertise
What you will need to be successful in the role
- Several years of relevant underwriting experience
- Strong analytical reasoning and decision-making capabilities
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated commercial awareness
- A strong customer service orientation
- A track record of displaying a positive, solution focused attitude
- An organised approach and delivers on any promises made
- Knowledge of the Risk, Control and Regulatory Environment relevant to this role and ensure control mechanisms are in place to prevent any risk arising
It would be desirable for the successful candidate to:
- Have an interest in ongoing developments in relevant underwriting & protection topics.
- Have broad systems and data analysis skills
- Have attained the Diploma in Life & Disability Underwriting (DLDU) or on pathway to equivalent underwriting qualification.
